More...ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Case for Action
In recent years a multitude of programmes for the mobility of young people have been implemented by the EU and member states and carried out in a huge variety of international projects by non-governmental organizations. These programmes especially address non-formal as well as informal learning, often focusing on intercultural competence and European citizenship as learning objectives. Many of these programmes have been evaluated as to their impact, and recommendations have been derived for programme content and format. Findings and insights have usually been presented and discussed with a specific focus on programme format, target group, or participating countries. The few exceptions for a more encompassing international exchange on concepts and findings on youth mobility have been singular events from which no permanent international network of experts from research and practice could be developed. Objectives
Building on two decades of productive dialogue and cooperation between social science researchers and experienced practitioners in the field of learning mobility of young people in Germany, we would like to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policy makers engaged in this field especially from the perspective of non-formal and informal learning. This European conference of researchers, practitioners, and involved institutions and organizations wants to take stock of current issues and research findings on educational youth mobility. This overview will serve to identify common interests, resources, and interfaces as a basis for collaboration projects, studies, and further exchanges within a European network of experts, who are interested in long-term cooperation.
It is our hope and driving proposition that through this a sustainable co-operation and network might be established on the European level which will be able to share best practices, and to exchange insights into quality factors and program formats that will contribute to desirable impact of learning mobility schemes for young people.
